This homeowner wanted to use California Pools. However, a friend recommended him to a smaller builder who would offer a more attractive price. The homeowner said, "I saw his work and it seemed fine. His customers were happy too." After getting to the rebar stage of construction, the homeowner sat for 9 months with small parts of construction being completed. The homeowner then found out the contractor did not even pull permits and had miscalculated something that was already built. By the time the homeowner called California Pools, he had paid $70,000 to the contractor and it was going to cost another $55,000 to rip out the damaged pool and build another basic one to code. And that did not include all of the landscaping and concrete decks. His original total budget was $90,000. It was going to cost another $110,000 to get the backyard the way he intended it, which did not include the $70,000 that was already lost. The homeowner ended up just filling in the hole which cost him antoher $10,000. He is still trying to get what he can back from the contractor. He is not hopefull.
